I have 2 Companion Vouchers and am planning a family trip that means flying LHR-SIN & HKG-LHR in Premium Economy.

Expect I’ll have to book One Way to SIN online then call BA to book the return ex-HKG.

Trying to work out total cost for 2 adults and 2 children by doing dummy cash bookings and looking at the tax element but getting confused as open jaw LHR-SIN/HKG-LHR total taxes is different from the sum of 2 one-way tickets.

Am concerned that by booking individual legs I am going to end up paying more than if both booked together.

Can anyone advise what I should be charged?

    hi ba744

i don’t think you can use both vouchers for family of 4 as person that has them has to travel on it

ie i can’t use voucher to fly wife and son, i would have to travel

    pretty sure but maybe wrong

    good luck

I don’t have the exact terms for the UK AMEX 2-for-1 voucher, but I recently used the similar 2-for-1 voucher in Sweden for a BA Visa card. I have booked CPH-LHR-YYZ with the short-haul in EuroTraveller and the long-haul in First combined with ORD-LHR-CPH in Club World and EuroTraveller. All accumulated up and divided by two. So open jaw with mixed classes worked well. Please note that this is within the same award zone, not sure how that works for SIN and HKG.

You should essentially pay for the sum of both, divided by two.

Capetown2k – I have done quite a lot of research on this as the trip is to celebrate 10 years marriage and first time I have taken the family on a long haul trip.

1 voucher is for me + one child. The second voucher is for the wife + second child. If all travelling together, multiple vouchers can be used.

I think Capetown is correct about not being able to use 2 vouchers for family of 4 for reason stated. I’ve tried this unsuccessfully too. But I did find the BAEC agent very helpfully in working out the best Avios/Cash combo for the second two tickets when I didn’t have enough points so it’s worth asking for their help.

Direct from BA website T&Cs https://www.britishairways.com/en-gb/executive-club/modalContent/avios/collecting-avios/credit-cards/uk/credit-card-companion-voucher-terms-conditions.html

12.If the Member has two valid Companion Vouchers on their account they have the option to redeem both of them together for one flight booking allowing the Member to travel with 3 companions and pay the Avios flight price for only 2 people travelling on the booking.

BA744, yes you can use both, just has to be made as one booking.

For an open jaw, you cannot book online, need to call the BA Executive Club to do the reservation for you.

Nor can you book one ways.

    Hi BA744

As above you can use two 241 vouchers as you want to on the same journey.

You can most certainly book one ways also, as I did quite recently for LHR-HKG, using a 241, then I added a return some weeks later from HND-LHR. I had to pay the taxes fees for the return and they were what I would have expected to pay. As I couldn’t do this online, I phoned and had to pay change fees, but no fee for phoning up to do it. (We are travelling in F, so I called You First and got through almost immediately and got all my changes/rebooking done expertly and efficiently. Great service.). I think from memory it was £35 per person change fee to add this return flight. But if you are calling to book your whole journey, I’m not sure what they would charge you, if anything, as you can’t do it online, I would nicely point that out to them if charges are quoted!

The open jaw only works for journeys to/from the same zone. Easy enough to find out if your chosen destinations are in the same zone on the BA website. When I couldn’t find HKG return availability that’s exactly what I did and found “lots” back from HND! So job done as it were!

Have a great special anniversary trip with your family 🙂

    Hi Papillion53

Did you book HKG one way, or return but then changed it to HND?

I booked the one way as there was no availability back at the time of booking (I had had to reschedule a whole trip previously booked but that is another long story!;-) :-))

I had looked at SIN, nothing doing there either for coming back, and I couldn’t be very flexible with dates for this trip as the 241 was due to expire and being a true Scot, I didn’t want to waste it! So I kept looking and then I had” a thought ” about checking other places in the same zone, as I remembered reading ages ago about open jaws and someone else telling us that they had added on the return in this way. Which of course makes perfect sense in terms of maximising your avios on the 241.

When I phoned up to add this on and check that HND was the same zone, it was confirmed, so I went ahead and booked it. We were charged a change fee to do this, but nothing else as you cannot do it online.

    Hope this makes sense.:-)

I should perhaps add that this is for a trip to Oz, and we are flying CX down to Oz ex HKG and JAL back to HND ex SYD. Clearly not on the 241, but avios tickets and I love their low taxes and fees!!!

Congratulations BA744fan and once you’ve got your tickets sorted, have a great trip.

And Papillion, how nice to have you back with us. I trust you and the DH are both keeping well?

    Hello LP! 🙂

Thanks, yes we are both well. Hope you and family well too. I too wonder about your elephant sanctuary and how the elephant you moved some time ago is doing (I’m sorry her name escapes me). Have had a hectic few months, so been “lurking” but we have managed to escape to the “home of golf” for a few days and have time to sit down and write. We should have been in Australia but had to reschedule our trip – and I even managed to get CX in F ex HKG-LHR, on avios, which really hurt when I had to cancel that part!

One of the reasons for the hectic time, is a Guide Dog Puppy I am puppy walking for Guide Dogs for the Blind, who arrived into our lives in May and is now 6 months old. She is a black lab/retriever cross and full of mischief and loves everyone and everything! I just so wish the “you know Mrs P has magic eyes in the back of her head” tale or should that be tail? and “she can use these magic eyes to see through walls too”, which is oft used – successfully – on little humans when they are prone to being naughty, could be put to such good use with little pups! LOL!

It really is a golfer’s paradise here – I will do a trip report when I get home with some photos – not that you could see much the last couple of days for the mist. And that’s not Scotch mist either!! 😉 :-))

I’m sorry I should have typed NRT not HND in my post above.

Did you get your flights sorted out?
