Just got mail from AA and the propsed Business layout on 773 is 1 2 1 all forward facing (the same as first layout) so no facing backwards and no struggling to get to aisle. They say 6'8" length for First but do not quote figure for Business. If it is long enough then this will be fantastic. If they compromise leg room like BA did with their flat beds then it will not work for me.

On other fronts AA passengers are benfiting form One World as AA implements many policies from BA, Free Wine And Beer on international flights, Pajamas and turn down in First, 70 lbs bag limit for Elite FFB's.
Assuming the Chapter 11 is successful, this new more customer focussed approach should help AA gain share particularly in US originating travel (one has to accept that many people of all nationalities feel uncomfortable or ill at ease on foreign aircraft and this will always limit AA traffic originating overseas as it does BA).

OMG looks identical to the new Cathay business seat!!! xx
RichHI1 - 27/01/2012 11:43 GMT
DO you know how long these rae Becky? Spacing says 6''6" but that does not mean bed length is 6'6"... I would hate to think ti si 6'0" or so.

There are rumours that AA are going to move to ten across (3-4-3) in economy on this aircraft. Can Bt confirm this?
DGroves - we have asked American Airlines for confirmation of this, and will post here once we have a response.

BT do you know what CX's response is to this? xx

on Image 3 / 3 Boeing 777-300-ER Coach Class are there plugs?
Maybe one world going to or try to do same standered on there planes?
RichHI1 - 27/01/2012 15:03 GMT
ChrisBuda82, it would be great if One World did standardize. These look much nicer than Club World with the backwards facing seats and difficulty (as with current AA) of getting to and from aisle.

The CX seat is excellent, as good as F on BA. I'm delighted to see another carrier adopting it and it should cause the game to be raised on the north Atlantic where the only fully flat C seat has been the dreadful club world offering from BA. It's not a route I travel often but AA have just secured my business if I need to travel in C.

I have to say I have been an AA fan for a number of years and the layout in First and Business of these new 773's looks really good to me. I just hope they put them on LHR-LAX and not just the JFK run. It is a bit worrying that 137 is no longer a daily service.

Before we all get too excited, note that Sao Paulo is expected to be the first route to see the B777-300ER and that won't be until December. So this aircraft is unlikely to make London until early 2013 and then only on a few flights until more are delivered.

If AA were to merge with, purely speculation of course by Bloomberg, then this new seating may never see the light of day:

Except that the new US Airways J class seating is almost identical to the new American product.

While the hacks generate stories to keep their stations on the air (Is Mitt a Martian? Britain faces coldest snap since Ice Age? Capitalism threatened by Bolshie Bank Bashers...etc)
I think you are missing the point. The whole emphasis at AA over the last few months has been to try and align service standards with BA and I believe JAl and QF all of whom they have JV's with. AA has introduced Turn Down and Pajamas in First, AA has upped elite baggage allowance to 70lbs and now I think we are seeing a move to Fully FLat parallel seating. All designed to make interoperation of flights as seemless as possible for PAx so they can maximize eficiencies. MY hope based on the posters comments about CX seat is that the AA product will not have the shortcomings of the BA CW seat, we know there is aisle access from every seat which is great and now we wait for seat length which will hopefully not be compromised like BA is for tall passengers.
If any merger happens you can be sure that the driving force will be one world commonality as that is how they hope to make operational savings. Similarly we will start to see more One world groupings in TErminals around the world. I wonder how long before LAX, ORD and JFK bring One world together. And I guess after T2 and Tc and d and e we will see one world come together at LHR.
I read somewhere that AA's 77W is to have 365 seats. If this is true, that means Economy must be 3-4-3. BA has 297 seats on theirs with 3-3-3
UncleDude - 10/02/2012 03:34 GMT
But the New AA 777s will have a smaller F class than BA, a smaller J Class in terms of Numbers than BA, no PE Class, so these differences could easily account for the higher total number of Seats on Board. However I do think that 10 across in Y will become the Industry norm as happened to the 747 in the 1970's.
RichHI1 - 10/02/2012 09:02 GMT
My understanding is it will remain 2-5-2 in coach.
sparkyflyer - 10/02/2012 09:02 GMT
I flew a 777 once with 10 abreast on Emirates, was awful. I am slim and it was still a nightmare. Put me off Emirates and any 10 abreast 777 airline for life.
I did read somewhere though that AA will be bringing back free beer and wine in economy which is a good move and help position them with partners and rivals.
