We take a lot for granted and we all expect top class service. Something went wrong last night in Dubai leaving at least 2 families without a bread winner and a question mark over the casue of the 747-400 failure.

I would like to send my thoughts and condolences to the families involved. Flying is unique in that most pilots take up the profession because of their passion for flying. When I get on the 747-400 on Tuesday midday, on my way back from Asia, I will send a note up to the pilots to thank them for excellence and dedication and for keeping me safe. I have never done this before becasue like most people, I have taken it for granted that I will arrive safe and sound.

Not wishing to conenct the UPS and the Qantas incident, but both appear to have been centred on an engine (my only reference on this are news reports). Does anyone know which engine mfg UPS used and whether there are any interim reports. These 2 incidents were only 8 weeks apart,

Actually the dubai crash is centreing on its cargo of lithium,batteries, notoriously unstable

sounds more similar to the value jet florida crash and its cargo of oxegen cylinders
