British Airways has announced a new codeshare agreement with Indian domestic carrier Vistara.

The deal – which launches today for travel from September 27 – allows BA customers to book seats on connecting domestic services from Chennai, Mumbai and Delhi.

BA currently operates double daily flights from Heathrow to Mumbai and Delhi, and a daily service to Chennai, as well as flights to Hyderabad and Bangalore.

The agreement will open up a total of 13 new Indian destinations for BA customers including Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Goa, Kolkata, Kochi, and Pune.

The codeshare expands on an existing interline and check-in partnership between the two carriers.

Passengers on codeshare flights will be able to check their bags straight through to the final destination, will enjoy complimentary meals on Vistara sectors, and will earn Avios and tier points on BA coded Vistara flights.

Commenting on the news Rishi Kapoor, British Airways’ Head of Alliances, said:

“We have been flying to India for more than 90 years, so it is incredibly exciting for us to be able announce this partnership with such a well-respected carrier. We have been wanting to expand our network in the region for some time and to have Vistara on board is great news for our customers and for companies based in these important cities.

“Whether it’s soaking up the beaches in Goa, India’s sunshine state, exploring Kochi, Kerala’s colourful city, or taking in the temples and culture of Amritsar, this partnership opens up a whole new range of destinations for holidaymakers too.”
