British Airways has confirmed plans to drop its flights between Gatwick and Oakland International airport for this winter.

The carrier launched flights to the San Francisco Bay area airport in March 2017, and has been competing with Norwegian on the route.

The last service for the summer season will be on October 20, and BA says it will relaunch the route in March 2019.

In a statement provided to Business Traveller the carrier said:

“We regularly review our schedule to ensure that we are flying to destinations popular with our customers, during the months they wish to fly. Oakland is a popular destination during the summer months, so the new schedule corresponds with customer demand.

“We’ll be using the slots and aircraft time to enable us to operate year-round flying to Vegas from Gatwick, and we’ll be adding three more flights a week to our schedule.”
