Ruby Hotels has announced its first property in the UK, to be located close to London’s Waterloo station.

The 76-room Ruby Lucy is set to open by the end of 2019, and will be housed within a new-build property on Lower Marsh, around five minutes’ walk south of the station.

Details about the hotel are sketchy at this stage, but Ruby Hotels describes itself as a “Lean Luxury” brand, focusing on “being connected, sleeping and freshening up”.

Phrases on its website blog include “We don’t need huge rooms, because luxury can also work in confined spaces”, and “We don’t need a restaurant or room service in a hotel that is located in the heart of the city – we’d rather show you the best hotspots in our neighbourhood to make the most of your stay”.

The building in which the hotel is being housed will however feature standalone shops and restaurants.

The Ruby Group already operates hotels in Vienna, Dusseldorf, Munich and Hamburg, and has also announced plans for a property in Zurich, as well as a hotel “in a still confidential, French-speaking location”.

The as-yet-unnamed Zurich property will offer around 210 rooms, and will be located close to the city’s central station.
