Happy Chinese New Year and welcome to the Year of the Dog!

With the start of a new year, we take a look at what’s in store for each of the zodiacs over the next 12 months, and how to maximise your good fortunes while travelling.

Dog

Born in: 2006, 1994, 1982, 1970, 1958, 1946, 1934, 1922…

It may be your year, but that doesn’t mean it’s going to be an easy one. Things are due to get off to a particularly rocky start with uncertainty in your career and emotional strife on the horizon. Going on holiday is a good way to release this pressure. If you are born in the winter months, target hot destinations such as a relaxing spa in Thailand. If you were born in summer, now is the time for that bucket-list trip to Antarctica to meet the penguins. You could also have a bit of an accident-prone year ahead, so you may want to avoid high-risk activities such as skydiving and bungee jumping.

Pig

Born in: 2007, 1995, 1983, 1971, 1959, 1947, 1935, 1923…

Lucky Pig – it seems you are in for a great year! Most areas of your life will run smoothly for you this year and you will earn more money. If you’re single, this will be the year that you find a partner. Hot, sunny locations are particularly auspicious for you right now – so get ready for a summer romance on a golden sweep of sand.

Rat

Born in: 2008, 1996, 1984, 1972, 1960, 1948, 1936, 1924…

Oh dear, a bit of a bumpy ride ahead for Rats, with some highs and lows. You are advised to immerse yourself in the natural environment to relax, so perhaps head to the Antipodes and get a lungful of fresh air in Tasmania, or head to Jiuzhaigou, China to drink in the stunning valley views. Having said that, the up-and-down nature of your zodiac this year indicates you should take extra care with water-based activities, such as diving and surfing.

Ox

Born in: 2009, 1997, 1985, 1973, 1961, 1949, 1937, 1925…

Keep an eye on your health, especially what you eat, to avoid food poisoning. And perhaps remember to pack some Imodium with you when you travel – just in case. The Star of Yin also covers you this year, meaning travelling with female company will be particularly rewarding, be it your wife, sister, mother or friend.

Tiger

Born in: 1998, 1986, 1974, 1962, 1950, 1938, 1926, 1914…

The stars are busy for Tigers this year, but they don’t all align. You do have the Star of Work in your corner, so you can expect a smooth and successful work life this year. However, there are also quite a number of obstacles. The Star of Villain is hovering close to you, which indicates someone talking behind your back. You will also be affected by the Star of Court, which manages arguments and discord, so avoid travelling in large groups. You’ve also been cursed by the Star of Five Ghosts, so don’t choose a hotel in a remote area or visit graveyards on your travels this year…

Rabbit

Born in: 1999, 1987, 1975, 1963, 1951, 1939, 1927, 1915…

Unlike Tigers, Rabbits are set to have a happy, sociable year with lots of new friends being added to the mix. For Rabbits, travelling in a big group is a good idea. You may also want to start a relationship this year, and a successful long-distance relationship could be on the cards, but be careful not to fall for the wrong one. For those already in a relationship or married, be careful – the pressures of too much travelling may cause one (or both) partners to develop a wandering eye…

Dragon

Born in: 2000, 1988, 1976, 1964, 1952, 1940, 1928, 1916…

Drinks on the Dragon! According to the Star of Consumption, you’re in a serious spending mood this year. If the dent in your bank account is unavoidable, make sure you’re spending your money on meaningful things and experiences – book a trip to somewhere you’ve never visited. Dragons also need to take care on the roads this year, especially when driving. Travel with a companion, and make sure you take out comprehensive travel insurance.

Snake

Born in: 2001, 1989, 1977, 1965, 1953, 1941, 1929, 1917…

The stars are aligning for Solitary Snakes this year, particularly those travelling overseas. Push yourself to head to the local bar and join in activities while travelling this year if you want to meet that special someone. But take care to get enough sleep and nutrition otherwise your new partying regime will take its toll.

Horse

Born in: 2002, 1990, 1978, 1966, 1954, 1942, 1930, 1918…

The Star of Leadership is backing you up this year, so it’s time to take the reins and maybe get yourself that promotion. When organising a trip with friends or colleagues, you should also take charge of the itinerary. The Star of Food is also shining down on Horses this year, which means you’ll get to enjoy a lot of delicacies this year – but take heed not to enjoy them too much if you want to keep your figure.

Goat

Born in: 2003, 1991, 1979, 1967, 1955, 1943, 1931, 1919…

Unfortunately, Goats are in for a turbulent year. Misunderstanding and arguments at work are on the cards – so work hard on your communication skills to avoid drama. Mind what you say, or if in doubt – just shut up. This is a good year to spend time travelling solo, or heading to a quiet location.

Monkey

Born in: 2004, 1992, 1980, 1968, 1956, 1944, 1932, 1920…

You are encouraged by the Star of Riding to travel more this year, and it’s the perfect opportunity to start tackling the destinations on your bucket list. However, be aware that the Star of Surprise is also on your path so pay extra attention to being organised and having back-up plans.

Rooster

Born in: 2005, 1993, 1981, 1969, 1957, 1945, 1933, 1921…

The Star of Fear is affecting Roosters this year, which could see you putting off new adventures or not trying new things if you’re not careful. Be mindful that you don’t get stuck in a rut or monotonous routine and make an extra effort to step out of your comfort zone. Potential health issues also indicate Roosters should make sure their medical travel policies are up to date and they take medicine with them on the road.
