Gulf Air is to upgrade its Bahrain-London Heathrow route to the B787-9 Dreamliner later this year.

Business Traveller was alerted to the news by industry website routesonline.com, and a check of the carrier’s reservation system shows the Dreamliner operating on Gulf Air’s twice daily flights to the capital from June 15.

The airline is scheduled to take delivery of five B787s this year, with a further five arriving by the end of 2020.

The aircraft will feature 256 economy seats and 26 of Gulf Air’s latest Falcon Gold business class seats.

The Dreamliners will gradually replace the carrier’s A330 aircraft serving long-haul routes.

Gulf Air competes with British Airways on the Heathrow-Bahrain route, with the UK carrier operating Boeing B777 aircraft on the route.
