The government of Japan has simplified visa procedures for Indian travellers that will come into effect from January 1, 2018. Through this new development, Japan aims to promote business and leisure travel between the two countries.

Under the new regime, applicants need not submit the “employment certificate” and “explanation letter stating the purpose of their visit”. A valid passport, visa application form, and documents to prove the financial capability for tourism purpose/documents to prove the applicant’s affiliation to certain enterprises for business purposes will be the only three required documents for the multiple-entry visa procedure.

Following the new rule, multiple-entry visas with a validity of five years and stay of 90 days will be issued to applicants who have travelled to Japan twice or more in the past year. For this, eligible applicants will only have to submit their passport and visa application form.

In February this year, the East Asian country  introduced simplified visa procedures for Indian students to boost the number of Indian youths visiting Japan.
