Etihad is making widespread changes to its Etihad Guest programme from 8 October 2017 and from 15 January 2018. There are some benefits coming initially, with some reductions in benefits being introduced at the later date including an increase in the number of miles needed for upgrades.

Tier Validity

Etihad is aligning all tiers to have the same one year validity. Etihad Guest Members who gain Silver, Gold or Platinum Tier status will now retain their status for only one year. This is a change to the current programme where higher tier levels retain status for longer (see below).

Etihad Guest tier levels

The notes next to Tier Level Expiry (above) say “Applicable only when you attain the Tier prior to 08 October 2017.”

Changes to partner airlines

Previously, Etihad Guest Members who flew with another partner airline for the first time would receive 500 welcome bonus miles. This benefit is now restricted to members whose first flight is with Etihad Airways, Air Serbia or Air Seychelles.

Gold members lounge access in Abu Dhabi

Etihad Guest Gold Members flying on Etihad Airways operated flights will be eligible to use the Etihad Airways Business Class Lounge* in Terminal 1 and 3 at Abu Dhabi International Airport. This is subject to available capacity, so during peak periods guests will be offered access to the Al Reem Lounge in Terminal 1.

Collecting miles on Etihad Airways

On two of our Etihad Airways fare classes, we are increasing the number of Etihad Guest Miles being awarded. For fare class “J” in Business will go to 200% and fare class “F” in First will go to 275%.

Changes from 15 January 2018

Guest seats and upgrades

The number of Etihad Guest Miles required for a Guest Seat on Etihad Airways will decrease on certain routes but increase on others.

In addition, there will be an increase of the miles required for upgrades.

Surcharge

Etihad says that in addition “there will be an increase of USD 50 on the Carrier Surcharge across some of our Business and First Class routes”.

Open seats on Etihad Airways

Members can still purchase Open Seats redemptions for any available fare, in any cabin, including The Residence.
