Emirates has reported a record July for passenger traffic from the UK, with over 265,000 customers flying with the carrier from its six UK gateways.

A combined total of over 140,000 passengers flew with Emirates out of London Gatwick and Heathrow, with over 48,000 travelling with the carrier from Manchester, 40,000 from Birmingham, 22,000 from Glasgow and 12,000 from Newcastle.

Emirates says the figures mean it is on track to carry five million passengers between the UK and Dubai in the 2017/18 financial year, which would beat the 2016/17 figures of 4.92 million.

The carrier celebrates its 30th year of UK operations in 2017 – as a comparison in July 1987 Emirates carried just 4,000 passengers from the UK.

Dubai was the most popular final destination for travellers flying with Emirates from the UK last month, followed by onward destinations of Bangkok, Phuket, Mauritius, Maldives and Bali.

Emirates is set to drop one of its three daily services from Birmingham next month, but will swap the B777 operating on one of the remaining two flights with the larger A380 from October.

The carrier recently extended its policy allowing paid-for access to its lounges, with the option now available at its UK airports including Gatwick, Heathrow and Manchester.
