Hyatt has brought its Grand Hyatt brand to the capital of China’s Hunan province, Changsha, with the opening of the Grand Hyatt Changsha yesterday.

Located on Xiangjiang Road in Tianxin district along the Xiang River, the property is situated within a 61-storey tower, offering both river and city views from its 354 rooms. The city’s Wuyi business district is about a 20-minute walk from the hotel, while Huanghua International Airport is about 45 minutes away by car.

“The opening of Grand Hyatt Changsha echoes Hyatt’s development strategy, which is to focus on cities and markets where guests are travelling,” said Christophe Koehler, Hyatt’s vice president and managing director of China operations. “With the great support of our owner, Huayuan Group, we are very confident that guests will experience welcoming luxury and best-in-class restaurants at Grand Hyatt Changsha, while also creating memorable experiences in this wonderful destination.”

Of the 354 guestrooms at the new hotel, 31 are suites, which are situated on floors 46 all the way to the top 61st storey. All accommodations, as with the hotel itself, feature a red, Asian-inspired design palette inspired by classic Chinese red-ink wash paintings along with the city’s autumn maple trees along the river.

Outside of the rooms, the hotel offers five restaurants and bars: Xiangjiang 36 offers spicy local Hunan cuisine as well as Peking duck; BBQ provides prime-cut meats grilled at your table; Casa Grande is an Italian dining and cocktail bar with an outdoor garden and live performances; the Grand Café features 12-metre-high ceilings and is designed to look like a “culinary theatre”; and The Lounge that overlooks the grand lobby.

“Changsha’s 3,000-year-old history shines through in this booming cosmopolitan destination, from its world-famous gastronomy to its vibrant culture,” said the hotel’s general manager, Sam Cheng. “We are excited to introduce the Grand Hyatt brand’s signature grandeur, authentic dining experiences and memorable moments of more at our new contemporary riverfront hotel just steps from Changsha’s heritage sites.”

Meetings and events facilities are also available at the hotel, comprising 3,444 sqm of events space including a 1,160 sqm grand ballroom with river views and floor-to-ceiling windows, and the Grand Residence, which features a live kitchen.

Hyatt’s new Changsha hotel is its 12th property in China under the Grand Hyatt brand.
