The A320 has become the latest Airbus aircraft family to offer the manufacturer’s Airspace interiors, following the A350 and forthcoming A330neo.
The new cabins feature a number of innovations, including what Airbus says are the largest overhead storage compartments in class.
Referred to as “Airspace Bins”, they can accommodate up to eight bags (up from the current five), and can also handle larger and heavier bags vertically.
Other new features include:
- A new toilet design with mood lighting, antibacterial coating, sound and optional touchless options, and an “automatic aroma dispenser”
- New sidewall panels which increase the cabin width by one inch at shoulder height
- Coloured LED lighting with 16.4 million colour options
- A new fully-integrated window shade, which Airbus says provide passengers with “more window space and unobstructed view, evoking the feel of the A350”
Commenting on the launch Dr Kiran Rao, Executive Vice President, Product Strategy, Airbus Commercial Aircraft said that popularity of the cabins in the manufacturer’s A350 XWB aircraft “was great validation that gave us confidence to apply the design language to the A330neo and now to the A320 Family”.
The manufacturer aims to have the new interiors available from 2020, and says that they can be retrofitted to current hardware.
