Melia Hotels International has announced plans to add eight new properties in Cuba, across its Melia Hotels and Resorts, Innside by Melia and Sol House brands.

In Cienfuegos the group will the 56-room San Carlos Hotel and the 49-room Union Hotel, both under its Melia brand, as well as the 173-room Jagua Hotel under its Innside by Melia offering.

In Trinidad Melia will add the 279-room Ancon Hotel under its Sol House brand, as well as a 102-room, new-build property under its Melia portfolio.

Finally in Camaguey the group will add its Melia brand to two hotels in the historic city centre, as well as managing the 142-room Hotel Camaguey under its Innside offering.

Melia will assume responsibility for the properties during a transitional period between November 1 and the end of the year, under an agreement with Cuban hotel groups Gran Caribe, Cubanacan and Islazul.

Commenting on the news Meliá’s vice president, Gabriel Escarrer Jaume said:

“These eight hotels are an important challenge which we face with great enthusiasm and responsibility, given that we are also taking on a commitment to strengthen the multi-destination vacation segment, guaranteeing the service and quality of the Meliá, Innside, and Sol House brands from the east to the west of the island.”

Melia Hotels International currently manages 27 properties in Cuba, including three in Havana – Melia Cohiba, Melia Habana and Tryp Habana Libre.
