Scandic Hotels has announced plans to open a new hotel in Gothenburg.

Set to open in 2020, the hotel will be an addition to the Alvstaden urban development project in the city centre, located within walking distance of the main train station. It will have 362 rooms, a “relaxation area”, restaurant and a rooftop bar, alongside 15 conference rooms and a 1,000 sqm meeting and event space.

Designed to be a new landmark for the city, the hotel will be built using transparent, glass cubes with greenery and plant life featured throughout.

The largest hotel operator in the Nordic region, Scandic Hotels has five hotels in central Gothenburg and an additional two hotels in the surrounding region. Gothenburg is currently experiencing considerable infrastructure developments, including the addition of a new railway tunnel creating three new underground stations, a highway and new vertical-lift bridge, plus new office blocks.

President and CEO of Scandic Hotels Group Frank Fiskers said: “Gothenburg is a growing area and a strategically important market for us. This agreement further strengthens our position as the leading hotel operator in central Gothenburg.”
