Melia Hotels International has announced plans for its first property in Bangkok, joining the group’s existing Imperial Boat House Beach Resort on Koh Samui.

Melia Bangkok is scheduled to open in 2022, and will be located in the city’s Sukhumvit district within a mixed use development.

Features will include 315 rooms, as well as “exceptional F&B outlets, spa amenities, a fitness centre and meeting facilities”.

The property will developed in partnership with Thailand-based Asset World, and commenting on the news Bernardo Cabot Estarellas, senior vice president Asia Pacific of Meliá Hotels International said:

“It gives us [Meliá] great confidence to partner with Asset World to launch the Meliá brand in a thriving destination such as Bangkok.

“Our growth strategy must be accompanied with major local partners who share our vision, philosophy and culture – even more so when we’re entering the second most visited country in Southeast Asia.

“I believe Meliá’s impeccable track record of 60 years in hotel management and Spanish service culture will stand us in good stead to achieve growth while delivering an unmatched guest experience.”

Last year Melia confirmed plans to double its portfolio of hotels in Asia by 2020 – it currently operates 13 properties in the region, with another 21 in the pipeline.

The group plans to open ten hotels across Indonesia in the next two years, with properties also under development in China, Myanmar and Vietnam.
