Alaska Airlines has begun a new route between San Diego and Newark, set to continue year-round on a daily basis.

The flight takes off from San Diego International Airport at 9:55am and lands at Newark Liberty International Airport at 5:55pm for a total flight time of 5 hours. The return flight takes off from Newark at 7pm and lands in San Diego at 10pm for a total time of 6 hours.

The route will be serviced on B737-8 aircraft offering 12 First class seats and 147 economy seats. First class affords 36 inches (91cm) of legroom but no lie-flat option and economy affords 31 inches (79cm) of legroom. All seats are outfitted with laptop and USB charging ports.

Alaska Airlines Vice President of Capacity Planning John Kirby said, “We continue to offer more nonstop options from San Diego for our valued Southern California customers. Newark becomes our third East Coast destination from San Diego along with Boston and Orlando, and provides travelers easy access to the New York City metro area.”

The San Diego route is the second of four new Alaska routes to Newark, following daily service from Portland which began earlier this month. New daily services from Seattle and San Jose, CA to Newark are scheduled to begin in Spring 2017.

San Diego-Newark rates start at US$500 one-way.
