Avios is to drop several of its redemption options from the start of next year.

The travel rewards programme says that from January 1, 2017 “it will no longer be possible to book package holidays, cruises, ferry crossings, Thomas Cook sport event breaks, Orient Express, Disneyland Paris Hotels, or Eurostar tickets by spending your Avios”.

Members will still be able to collect Avios “when you book with your favourite travel brands online via Avios eStore and with Direct Ferries when you book through avios.com”.

The rewards programme recently added the option for members to part pay for Flybe flights using Avios, and from next year British Airways passengers will be able to use Avios to pay for food and drink on short-haul services.

Note that the Avios Travel Rewards Programme is separate to BA’s Executive Club (which uses Avios as its currency), but member are able to transfer points between the schemes.
