Business Traveller China Awards 2016

Around 250 key individuals from the travel industry were honoured today at the 12th annual Business Traveller China (BTC) Awards ceremony. The prestigious event took place over a lavish dinner at the Grand Kempinski Hotel Shanghai.

As always, the results were based on votes by the highly discerning readership of Business Traveller China, representing crucial customer feedback.

Prolific winner Singapore Airlines was once again crowned Best Airline in the World, and also picked up awards for its quality premium cabin products in the Best Airline First Class and Best Airline Business Class categories. It also managed to snatch away the award for Best Asian Airline serving China from rival Cathay Pacific, although CX did manage to hold on to the Best Frequent Flyer Programme category, thanks to its Marco Polo Club programme, for the second year in a row. Meanwhile, sister airline Dragonair won the award for Best Airline Economy Class.

Regional winners included Air China, United Airlines, Lufthansa and Qatar Airways for Best Chinese/American/European/Middle Eastern Airline serving China, respectively.

There were no changes for the best airports, with Incheon Airport named Best Airport Duty Free in the World, Hong Kong International Airport winning Best Airport in China and Singapore Changi Airport retaining the title of Best Airport in the World.

There were familiar names in the hotel categories too, with Grand Hyatt once again being named as the Best Hotel Brand in the World, while Shangri-La held on to its title of Best Hotel Brand in China.

Changes in the luxury categories saw The Peninsula Shanghai take home the award for Best Luxury Hotel in China. Meanwhile The Temple House Chengdu stayed in number one position for the Best Design Hotel in China award, as did China World Beijing for Best MICE Hotel in China. This year’s Best New Business Hotel in China award was presented to NUO Hotel Beijing.

Three new regional awards this year included: Best Business Hotel in Sanya, Best Business Hotel in Haikou and Best Business Hotel in Qingdao.

The Business Traveller Asia-Pacific and China Charity Auction 2016 will start on December 1, 2016. All proceeds will go to the Chi Heng Foundation, which helps thousands of children and youngsters affected by HIV and AIDS in rural China.
