Starwood’s Westin brand is on track to opening its 200th hotel in the next 12 months “propelled by strong growth across Asia-Pacific” - a region that will receive a high proportion of the brand’s new openings.
Westin is poised to open 11 hotels in total this year with just three in the United States, while six of the openings will be in China and the rest scattered around the world.
The brand is targeting key second-tier cities on the Mainland, with openings in Ningbo, Xiamen, Changbaishan, Taoyuan, Qingdao and Xian, with an additional four properties in the pipeline scheduled to open by the end of 2013. These hotels will follow closely behind the Westin opening in Xi’an earlier this year (see story here).
The hotel brand is also set to open a resort in Indonesia this year – the Westin Ubud Resort and Spa – before making debuts in Vietnam and Singapore further down the line in 2015.
