United Continental Holdings has launched mobile boarding passes for passengers departing Hong Kong International Airport – the first carrier to do so in Hong Kong.
From now on, passengers flying with United, can check in online through their web-enabled phones up to 24 hours before departure and download the two-dimensional bar code thus streamlining departure procedures.
At the airport, passengers can proceed immediately to immigration, security checkpoints and boarding gates. Any changes to seating, such as upgrades, will automatically be incorporated into the mobile boarding pass when refreshed.
As reported earlier (see story here), United Continental Holdings has been pushing through several technological developments on international routes. In addition to this service, which will soon be rolled out at Tokyo Narita International Airport and Frankfurt Airport, the carrier is exploring possibilities of installing wifi internet access on international routes (see story here).
Currently, United offers mobile boarding passes at 80 international and domestic airports while sister carrier Continental offers it at 70 airports worldwide.
