United Airlines has also sought permission from the US Department of Transportation to fly daily non-stop between Los Angeles and Shanghai, only days after American Airlines earned approval to fly the same route.
AA's start up is on April 5, 2010 (see news) and United's is on May 20.
Like AA, United will be utilising the three-class Boeing B777.
The route is currently only served by China Eastern Airlines, which flies daily between Shanghai Pudong airport and Los Angeles. United and Continental, the soon to merge to form United Airlines, currently flies to Shanghai from Chicago, San Francisco and Newark.
