Turkish Airlines has unveiled its latest collaboration with Manchester United, as part of the airline's sponsorship agreement with the football club.
The latest team-up is an inflight safety video, starring Man Utd players Wayne Rooney, Darren Fletcher, Chris Smalling, Nani, and twins Rafael and Fabio da Silva, which will appear on all Turkish Airlines flights from June onwards.
The video includes Rooney being shown the red card by fellow players for using his mobile phone inflight, and the team fooling about on the emergency exit slide.
The inflight video follows Turkish Airlines' highly popular TV advertisement, which featured the "Red Devils" tossing a ball during a flight.

Not really entertaining... they're trying hard to make the safety video enjoyable, but in this case it's "too" hard. It's just like watching Air NZ's new B777-300ER safety video (featuring "rico") whereby Rico occasionally appears to make blunders similar to what MU cast are doing here (but they do it in a very long duration). The problem is it might be funny if you just see it for the first time, but this kind of parody gets old really quickly. Try to watch it four times on your flight between Asia and North America via Istanbul and you'll get bored pretty soon... Also the elegant "globally yours" tunes somewhat does not come in line with those football fan cheering and shouting, the combination of both are rather breaking the harmony...
Plus, playing with captain's hat??? Well, on my next TK flight I'd more than pleased if the captain allow me to borrow his hat and use it to play frisbee...
No hard feelings ok, just my comments...

Airline safety videos are the one thing that many of us frequent flyers tune out of. By TK trying to add a little light humour into it, they are only trying to ensure that passengers do put down their newspapers and magazines and pay attention. For that, it can only be good thing. Whether it is Rico on NZ, the cartoon on VS or the cheesy smiles and grins of staff on UA, these videos are there to ensure we know what to do in order to keep us safe on board.
Whether we like them or whether they get old quickly is not the question, but rather whether they do their job, which I believe they all do. And although we may have seen the same video a hundred times over because we are lucky to fly a lot, always remember that many folks are not frequent travellers and will see it for the first time. If the videos serve their purpose, then job done.
