Tune Hotels opens in Manila

16 Mar 2012

The no frills hotel chain, Tune Hotels, has opened a property in Manila – the group’s third hotel in the Philippines.

The 167-room Tune Hotels Ermita, located in one of the older precincts of the city, is the first in Manila but follows closely behind the openings of Tune Hotels in Pampanga, near Diosdado Macapagal International Airport in Clark, and in Cebu.

This property follows the typical Tune Hotels business model offering guests just the bare minimum and additional pay-as-you-use amenities, such as towels or wifi.

This sort of budget model fits well with the travel market in the Philippines, explains Mark Lankester, chief executive of Tune Hotels. “Manila and the Philippines as a whole are indeed an important market for Tune Hotels. With the rise of budget packages from airlines and increase in business travel, there’s a high demand for no-fuss hotels,” he said.

The group is planning to expand further on the archipelago, with properties in the Makati, Ortigas and Quezon City districts in Manila and Mindanao scheduled to open by 2013.

Earlier this year, the hotel brand opened a hotel near Liverpool Street station in London (see story here) as well as announced plans to open hotels in Paddington and Kings Cross this summer (see story here).
