Sydney International Airport unveils results of upgrading

Sydney International Airport has unveiled the results of a US$500 million upgrading programme.

Travellers can experience an enlarged and refurbished departure area as well as new security and waiting areas, retail offerings and dining options.

Handling 60 A380 movements weekly has turned Sydney airport into one of the busiest A380 hubs in the world, and the refurbishment has been able to address this concern with a new baggage reclaim carousel for increased capacity.??

In 2009, Sydney Airport processed 10.6 million international passengers, and that number is forecast to reach 20 million by 2020 and around 30 million by 2029.

Sydney Airport’s CEO Russell Balding said the project aimed not only to provide travellers "an enhanced travel experience”, but was also "a strategically important investment that will leave visitors with a positive and lasting impression of Sydney".

Another US$1 billion will be spent on further improving the airport in the next five years.
