Starwood's upscale St Regis brand has made its first appearance in Japan through a 160-room property in Osaka's central business district, Midosuji.
Japan's second largest gateway, Osaka provides "an ideal choice for the legendary St Regis brand", said Paul James, global brand leader of The St Regis and The Luxury Collection Hotels & Resorts. The first St Regis opened in New York in 1904 and hotels belonging to the chain are now found in 20 countries.
St Regis Osaka features the signature Rue D’or restaurant, a classic French bistro, and La Veduta, serving rustic Italian cuisine. For events, there is a rooftop garden with city views as well as 420sqm of meeting space.
Osaka tourism officials are expecting more hotel openings, citing the Peninsula group and Four Seasons that are said to be eying sites in the city. Both are already present in Tokyo.
