Sofitel So Bangkok opens its doors

28 Feb 2012

Sofitel So Bangkok swings open its doors today bringing the first Sofitel So branded property to Asia.

Located in the city’s coveted Lumpini Park district, the property draws on the expertise of five local designers teamed with architect Smith Obayawat and designer Christian Lacroix.

As reported earlier (see story here), the design theme that runs through the 238-room hotel revolves around the five natural elements – water, earth, wood, metal and fire. The rooms are designed around the first four elements, each with a distinct standout feature, such as a bath tub with a view of Bangkok’s skyline in the water rooms, or modern, sleek white furnishings in the metal-themed rooms.

All rooms also boast state of the art technology including free wifi, iPads and Apple Mac minis.

The fifth element, fire, is present in the public areas, such as the aptly named Red Oven restaurant, which consists of live cooking stations and a red oven in the centre. Alongside this restaurant, the hotel houses five other food and beverage outlets, most of which also feature hints of the flaming element.

The gym also follows the elements theme: it is designed to feel like an enchanted forest, while the spa and the outdoor infinity pool overlook Lumpini Park.

For meetings, the hotel offers a 380sqm ballroom alongside six meeting rooms.

This hotel is the second Sofitel So hotel in the world, after Sofitel So Mauritius, and precedes other Sofitel So properties poised to open in Mumbai and Singapore within the next couple of years, although a fixed timetable has not yet been released.
