SIA to deploy A380 on Singapore-Frankfurt-New York flight

19 Sep 2011

Singapore Airlines announced it will deploy the Airbus A380 on the Singapore-Frankfurt-New York route from January 15, 2012.

The superjumbo will be replacing the Boeing B747-400 currently used on this daily route, adding a 25 percent capacity to the flight.

However, it has not yet been revealed whether the aircraft used on this route will consist of the all-business class upper deck, which will be used on flights to London and Zurich from October 1 onwards (see story here).

Frankfurt and New York will be the carrier’s ninth and tenth destinations (globally) to be operated by the superjumbo, while New York will be the carrier’s second in North America after Los Angeles to receive the A380 (see story here).

Recently, Korean Air also announced it will be using the A380 on flights to Frankfurt from December 1 onwards (see story here), making SIA the second Asian carrier to serve Frankfurt with the superjumbo.
