Shanghai Jin Jiang to launch the highest hotel in the world

3 Jan 2011

Shanghai Jin Jiang International Hotels is adding a new member to its portfolio that will steal the crown from Park Hyatt Shanghai and the Ritz Carlton Hong Kong as the highest hotel in the world.

Under J-Hotel, a newly-launched luxury brand, the hotel operator and management company will develop a 258-room property on floors 84 to 110 of the Shanghai Tower – the newest gem of Pudong’s ever-growing skyline that is poised to be the globe’s second tallest building.

The tower, scheduled for completion in 2014, will be 632 metres tall, surpassing the Shanghai World Financial Centre, which stands at 492 meters tall and houses the Park Hyatt on floors 79 to 93, and the 509-metre-tall Taipei 101.

The Burj Khalifa, which will remain the tallest building in the world, houses the Armani Hotel but on its lower floors.

As the latest addition of Jin Jiang’s large collection of brands that includes the Jin Jiang, Marvel and Jin Jiang Inn, J Hotel is expected to grow rapidly.

“We hope to further establish the influence and awareness of J Hotel and plan to develop 10 to 12 landmark hotels in key cities, so as to capture first-mover advantage in China's high-end hotel market,” said Yu Minliang, chairman of Jin Jiang Hotels.

The group currently has 540 hotels under its umbrella, including the landmark Fairmont Peace Hotel.
