Marriott expands mobile check-in service

3 Dec 2013 by Clement Huang

Marriott International is now offering mobile check-in services across an additional 20 hotels in 19 countries, including the UK, Mexico, UAE and India.

The hospitality group first launched the service in 329 of its hotels in the US and Canada, but is now expanding it internationally after last month introducing it at five European hotels (see news, October 13).

The use of the service is limited to Marriott Rewards members, who upon downloading the Marriott Mobile app, can check-in through their smartphones as early as 1600 the day before arrival. They will then receive an automatic notification when the room is ready.

On arrival, guests can simply head to the mobile check-in desk and collect their key cards, which will be ready and waiting.

The service has been introduced to more countries due to the success that it has experienced in both the US and Canada. Marriott International intends to continually improve it and complete a full global roll out in all 500 hotels by the first half of 2014.

Paul Cahill, senior vice president of brand management for Marriott Hotels, said: "Mobile check-in is just the start. Our guests are more mobile and global than ever before, and technology is increasingly important to them, which is why we will add check-out next year."

Last week, it was announced that Marriott is planning to open a Moxy Hotel at London Heathrow in 2015 (see news, November 27).
