Malaysia Airlines will join the oneworld airline alliance by 2012.
The decision was made at a meeting “on the side lines of IATA’s 2011 World Air Transport Summit,” stated a press release on the carrier’s website.
A formal membership agreement will be drawn up later this year and the carrier will become a member late next year.
As part of its preparations for the membership, the carrier will be developing “bilateral links” with other oneworld members.
The membership will offer benefits for the carrier's customers including access to the alliance’s wide network and the carrier’s Enrich frequent flyer members will be able to earn and redeem miles when flying with any of the other member carriers.
