Malaysia Airlines (MAS) will be enlarging its weekly capacity to Asean destinations as well as Beijing, Taipei and Los Angeles from March 25.

According to a statement released by the airline, the new flights are in line with its business plan released last December (see story), which revealed the carrier’s emphasis on strengthening its network in the core Asean region, where its presence is the strongest.

Regionally, the Kuala Lumpur-Manila service will see another daily flight added and served by the B737-800, bringing the total number of weekly MAS flights between the two capitals to 21. Service to Phnom Penh from Kuala Lumpur, currently nine times weekly, will be beefed up with two more weekly flights on Tuesdays and Thursdays from March 25, and another three on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday from May 1.

The carrier's current B777-200 operations to Beijing from KLIA will be doubled to become a twice daily service, amounting to 1,974 more seats offered weekly between the two destinations. MAS is also increasing the frequency on existing Kuala Lumpur-Taipei sector by operating three more weekly flights on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, effective 27 March.

“In raising flight frequencies to these key Asia cities, the move will enable Malaysia Airlines to benefit from the strong growth in regional demand. It is also expected to increase full-service-flight passenger arrivals into Malaysia to further contribute positively towards the Malaysian tourism industry,” according to a statement made by the airline.

Meanwhile, the Kuala Lumpur-Taipei-Los Angeles service will be revised to operate from three times to four times weekly.

MAS serves more than 100 destinations worldwide.
