Low-cost THAI Tiger to start up in March 2011

Thai Tiger Airways is to begin operations in March 2011, and not January as reported earlier (see news), Piyasvasti Amranand, THAI Airways president, announced. The new low-cost carrier is a collaboration between THAI Airways and Tiger Airways.

The two airlines are now drawing up an operational plan, involving aircraft leases and the network of domestic and international routes.

The two airlines will decide on a suitable CEO for Thai Tiger by the end of September.

Thai Tiger may not lease aircraft from Tiger Air, but intends to look for “the most suitable and the best deal,” said Piyasvasti.

He reiterated that the new Thai Tiger will focus on grassroots clients and will not serve routes that overlap with THAI and Nok Air, a subidiary of THAI. Instead, Thai Tiger may open up new routes to cities in India and China.
