Jazeera Airways targets cash-conscious corporate travel

Low-cost carrier Jazeera Airways will start non-stop flights from Kuwait to Delhi and Mumbai and will increase frequency on a number of Middle East routes as it seeks to gain a larger share of business travel around the region.

The airline’s revised schedule, which commences on June 1, will also  increase the frequency of non-stop flights between Dubai and Kuwait from four times a day to six.

Jazeera Airways CEO Andrew Cowen said: “The Dubai-Kuwait route is great example for this increase in demand for lower fares as businesses now seek to lower their travel expenses without lowering their quality and on-time performance expectations.”

Frequency from Dubai to Bahrain will change from two to three flights per day and the airline will also see a new Kuwait service to Sana’a, the capital of Yemen, as well as the opening of the first non-stop flight between Bahrain and Sana’a.

However, the airline has been hit by a number of new regulatory restrictions that affect its routes. Services between Dubai and Delhi, Mumbai, Sana'a and Salalah in Oman, will have to stop over in Kuwait from June 1. The new rules also mean that Jazeera has to suspend its services to Cochin in India and the Sudanese capital Khartoum.

The increased focus by Jazeera Airways on business travellers is also reflected in the restructuring of its fare categories.

The Jazeera Plus fare offers maximum flight flexibility, additional baggage allowance, lounge access and a range of in-flight amenities. The Freedom fare permits flexible flight changes up to three hours prior to departure. The Jazeera Light fare allows ticket changes for a fee, while the Jazeera Easy fare is the least flexible but offers the lowest prices.
