Japan Airlines (JAL) has announced that it will postpone its planned February 25 launch of a nonstop service from Tokyo's Narita Airport to Helsinki-Vantaa Airport (see previous story here).
The service – which was to fly four times weekly – was set to employ one of the carrier's B787 Dreamliner aircraft, and the postponement has had to occur because of "necessary adjustments to JAL's international routes utilising the Boeing 787 aircraft since January 16," a JAL spokesperson confirmed.
All Dreamliners have been grounded globally after a number of incidents involving the aircraft, including a fire on a JAL Dreamliner (see story here) and the emergency landing of an All Nippon Airways (ANA) B787 (see story here). This has prompted a global investigation of the new aircraft, results of which has so far remained inconclusive (see here). In the meantime, B787 services for carriers including JAL (see here), ANA (see here), LAN, Qatar and United Airlines have been disrupted.
"The rescheduled date of opening of JAL's Narita-Helsinki service will be announced at a later time and customers with confirmed reservations on concerned flights will be informed about alternative options," the JAL spokesperson continued.
