Emirates receives two more A380s

23 Dec 2013 by Clement Huang

Emirates received two additional A380s from Germany on Sunday, expanding the airline's superjumbo fleet to 44.

The carrier's latest A380s have 14 seats in first class, 76 seats in business and 427 in economy.

Airline president Tim Clark said the new aircraft have larger high-definition LCD TV screens and new touchscreen tablets, which allow passengers to control all of their seat functions and movie selections with one swipe.

He said: "Our customers love the A380 – from the quieter cabins and spacious layout on the main deck, to the onboard lounge and shower spas in our premium cabins.

"It is a beautiful aircraft which we have packed full of the best inflight comforts and products.

"From an operator standpoint, the A380 is still one of the most fuel-efficient aircraft per seat. It offers us some flexibility in range and also helps us to meet demand at slot-constrained airports."

Emirates operates the world's largest fleet of A380s, flying one in three of the superjumbos in the skies each day.

The airline still has 96 more A380s on order, of which 50 were ordered at the Dubai Air Show in November. Seventy-one of these aircraft are expected to be delivered over the next five years.

It also operates the world's longest non-stop A380 service — some 13,414 kilometres — between its hub in Dubai and Los Angeles (see news, June 13) Emirates will launch a new A380 service to Zurich in January.
