China Eastern is rolling out a daily Hong Kong-Shanghai-San Francisco flight starting April 26.
The service will depart at 0730 from Hong Kong International Airport and land at Shanghai Pudong Airport at 0950. The next leg will take off three hours later at 1300 and arrive 0930 the same day at San Francisco International Airport.
The return flight will leave San Francisco at noon and touch down at Shanghai at 1600 the next day. After that, the flight heading to Hong Kong will depart at 2110 and arrive at 2335.
An A320 will be used for the shorter flight from Hong Kong to Shanghai, while the Shanghai-San Francisco leg will be operated by a two-class A330-200 with 28 and 202 business and economy seats respectively.
The Shanghai-based airline has been seeing flights from Hong Kong to the US becoming increasingly popular.
“We have been operating stopover flights from Hong Kong to places like Vancouver and Los Angeles for a fairly long time now, and there has been a lot of demand for such flights,” said China Eastern sales representative Eric But. “Seeing the demand, our company wants to tap into the market more, hence our new Hong Kong-Shanghai-San Francisco route.”
The new route marks the airline’s fourth service reaching the US after Los Angeles, New York and Honolulu.
