ANA eyes five new international routes from Haneda Airport

25 Jun 2010

All Nippon Airways (ANA) has announced its new international routes from Haneda Airport, going head-to-head against its fierce competitor Japan Airlines (JAL) for flights to Los Angeles, Honolulu, Singapore, Bangkok and Taipei (Songshan).

Haneda Airport will open a 154,000sqm new international air terminal in October, and it will shift to a 24-hour operation to accept more international flights – about 40 daily slots during the day and another 40 daily slots at night. With its proximity to downtown Tokyo, major airlines have been vying for coveted landing rights at Japan's emerging second global hub (see news here and here).

ANA plans to offer seven weekly flights to these five new routes out of Haneda Airport from October 31. JAL similarly is eyeing the same number flights and has recently received Japanese government approval to operate flights on the same routes (see news).

ANA will deploy a Boeing B777-200ER aircraft with two-class configurationon in all but one of the new routes - seating 35 in Business and 179 in Economy. For the flight between Haneda and Los Angeles, the B777-200ER aircraft will have a three-class seating – 70 in Business, 36 in Premium Economy and 117 in Economy.

Furthermore like JAL, ANA will also double the frequency of its existing "charter  services" between Haneda and  Gimpo Seoul, Beijing and Hongqiao Shanghai. The airline will also move its seven-times-weekly night flight to Hongkong to a daytime service.
