Aloft Bangkok: the first "second generation" Aloft

Aloft Bangkok, opening in October, will be Starwood's first "second generation" Aloft hotel that not only carries typical features of the Aloft brand but also draws on even more ingredients from the group’s successful W Hotels line.
At the 297-room Aloft Bangkok Sukhumvit 11, guests can expect the same urban, loft-like design with high-ceilings, large windows, fluid spaces and bright colours (see story here). But, "this is the second generation of Aloft: we've seen how Aloft works in the places where they have been launched and we've enhanced some features," said Patcharee Bunma, director of sales and marketing at Aloft Bangkok.
What will set this property apart is its focus on lifestyle “passions” as its sister brand does. “Since we carry the W DNA, our passions also revolve around music and fashion,” said Bunma.
Even before opening, the property has launched a DJ search competition inviting professionals and amateurs to create music for it. The winning beats will become the hotel’s official track.
From the iPad menu at the all-day restaurant, Crave, to the hotel key that allows guests free access to one of Bangkok’s hottest nightspots, Bed Supperclub, the hotel really pushes through the young and fun vibe. “We even have pool tables in our lobby so that when you enter, you don’t feel awkward. The atmosphere is immediately very social, just like a living room,” says Bunma.
All rooms will feature nine-foot-high ceilings, the signature platform bed, free wifi, iPod docking stations and the plug-and-play connectivity hub.
Other amenities at the property include the w xyz bar, the re:fuel by Aloft self-service snack bar, an outdoor swimming pool and a gym.
Opening rates, for stays between October 1 and December 31 this year, start from THB2,111 (HK$539) per night in a Chic room.
Since Starwood first unveiled Aloft in 2008, the brand has expanded rapidly, particularly in Asia. It's first Asian property opened in Beijing, also in 2008 (see story here), and since then its portfolio has grown to include two properties in India (see story here) and another 12 in the pipeline.
