Hotel check: Pullman Kuala Lumpur Bangsar

28 Feb 2015 by Clement Huang

BACKGROUND

The Pullman Kuala Lumpur Bangsar opened its doors in December 2013 and is the second Pullman-branded property in the Malaysian capital. The recent opening is consistent with French hospitality group Accor’s plans to expand the upscale brand across Asia over the coming years.

WHAT’S IT LIKE?

Instantly recognisable as a Pullman hotel with a modern facade and bright colour palette, Pullman Kuala Lumpur Bangsar is contemporary without coming off as intimidating. Indeed, the hotel appears to embrace functionality above everything else, as evident by the comfortable cushion seats at Link restaurant, the box-like appearance of furniture, and the use of modern conferencing technology in the hotel’s meeting facilities.

WHERE IS IT?

The hotel is situated in the up-and-coming suburb of Bangsar. Renowned for its nightlife and many dining outlets, the district has also seen significant investment to turn it into a prominent meetings and conference location, with additions like the newly opened Connexion@Nexus just a ten minute walk from the hotel. Less than 4km from the city centre, Pullman Kuala Lumpur Bangsar is also close to the KLIA airport express train, which offers a direct connection between the city centre and Kuala Lumpur International Airport. Other noteworthy attractions nearby include the iconic Menara Telekom skyscraper and Mid Valley Megamall, which is home to the Mid Valley Exhibition Centre in addition to more than 400 shops.

THE ROOMS

The 513 guestrooms and suites are designed in a contemporary style, each embracing the latest communication technology and delivering modern amenities. All rooms come with an iPod/MP3 dock, work desk, laptop charging points, separate bath and rain shower, and the signature Pullman pillow menu. An executive lounge is available for all guests staying in the executive rooms, which provide a dedicated check-in/check-out service, daily breakfast, plus coffee and tea throughout the day. Situated on the 27th floor – the top floor of the hotel   – the lounge also delivers some of the best views of the city.

BUSINESS AND MEETING FACILITIES

In keeping with the brand’s business hotel concept, guests staying at Pullman Kuala Lumpur Bangsar can choose from a variety of flexible options when hosting or attending an event. The hotel has 14 meeting rooms, with the Pullman Ballroom sporting a generous area of 1,073 sqm that is capable of accommodating up to 1,680 people in a theatre setting. All meeting facilities are equipped with a range of connectivity and conferencing capabilities including slide projection, wifi internet access, and audiovisual equipment.

LEISURE FACILITIES

Recreational options are limited to a swimming pool, Jacuzzi and small fitness centre. Being a four-star business brand, there isn't a particular demand for a spa at the Pullman Kuala Lumpur Bangsar.

RESTAURANTS AND BARS

Pullman Kuala Lumpur Bangsar is home to three restaurants and two bars. Guests can either indulge themselves in a range of international and Asian cuisines at the all-day dining outlet, Link, or enjoy Mediterranean cooking at La Cucina. There’s also Petit Café for a casual bite.

Smokers will be delighted to know that the Cigar Lounge offers a cosy and relaxing indoor area, while those who prefer a smoke-free environment can visit The Lounge for cocktails, signature martinis, beers and wines.

VERDICT

A great addition to the up-and-coming meetings and events hotspot of Bangsar, Pullman Kuala Lumpur Bangsar offers an excellent range of business facilities that fully epitomises the typical offering by Accor’s upscale business hotel brand. It doesn’t innovate, but why change something that isn’t broken, right?
