Travellers from the Pearl River Delta (PRD) region flying out of Hong Kong on Cathay Pacific flights will now be able to check in before their ferry journey at the airline’s dedicated check-in counters at Shenzhen Shekou Cruise Home Port on the Chinese mainland. The move is part of a strategy by the airline to enhance connectivity between Hong Kong and mainland China.

The service, which launched on Monday (December 19), expands on the airline’s previous check-in service at the terminal to offer a one-stop service.

“Cathay Pacific launched its first ever ‘upstream’ check-in service in Shekou in 2005 in order to provide a seamless connection between the Pearl River Delta region and our international flights departing from Hong Kong,” said the airline’s general manager sales PRD and Hong Kong, Liza Ng. “The opening of the new check-in counters together with our personalised service will enable us to deliver our promise of a Life Well Travelled.”

Baggage drop, and boarding pass and lounge pass issuance will be offered at these new dedicated counters, in addition to on-site customs and immigration facilities. Passengers will be able to disembark from the ferry at Hong Kong International Airport and proceed directly to their respective Cathay Pacific or Cathay Dragon flight without needing to pass through immigration or security checks at the airport.

As part of the new service launch, Cathay is offering sea-to-air bundle fares from the PRD to destinations in Asia, Europe and the US via Hong Kong.
