Malaysia Airlines will begin deploying its Airbus A330-300 on its Kuala Lumpur-Hong Kong route, starting January 1, 2017. The route is currently serviced three times daily by the Boeing B737-800.
The A330-300 will operate on the MH72 and MH73 flights, the former being the first flight out of Kuala Lumpur to Hong Kong departing at 0840 and arriving 1230. The return MH73 flight departs Hong Kong at 1430 and arrives back in Kuala Lumpur at 1855.
“We are very excited to be flying the A330 to Hong Kong,” said the airline’s CEO, Peter Bellew. “By the end of the first quarter 2017, we will be the only airline to provide the fully flat business class seat on a wide body aircraft for this sector. Our new business class seat is already a hit amongst our guests and we want to share this fantastic experience with our passengers on the Hong Kong route, where more of our business travellers can benefit from our super facilities.”
The upgauge to the A330-300 from the B737-800 will enable the carrier’s capacity to increase by 80 per cent, Bellew added. The airline will also consider implementing a second Kuala Lumpur-Hong Kong service upgrade in the future depending on passenger demand.
To mark the upgauge, Malaysia Airlines is offering economy and business class fare deals for bookings made before October 31, for flights from January 1, 2017 before the Lunar New Year. The promotion will offer all-in return business class fares of RM2,088 (US$499) and all-in return economy fares of RM788 (US$188).
