American Airlines will next summer add a second daily service onto its Philadelphia to London Heathrow route.
From March 29, the new flight will be operated by a B757-200 belonging to American's merger partner US Airways. It will run alongside AA's current Philadelphia to London service.
The outbound flight will depart Philadelphia International airport at 0955 and arrive at LHR at 2210 local time, while the return flight will take-off from Heathrow at 0820 and land in Philadelphia at 1135 local time.
The news comes just hours after Delta Air Lines announced it will launch a daily Philadelphia to Heathrow service next summer (see news, November 24).
Chuck Schubert, American's vice president of network and schedule planning, said: "One of the benefits of our merger is that we can enhance the service our customers have enjoyed for years in each of our nine hubs.
"We have flown from Philadelphia to London for 15 years and customers traveling through our Philadelphia hub have unrivaled access to hundreds of destinations in the United States, Europe and beyond."
