American Airlines has become the first major US carrier to allow frequent flyer members to redeem miles for one-way award flights.
Several European airlines including BA already have this functionlity, but AA is the first of the big US carriers to adopt it. The new One-Way Flex service means that AAdvantage members can redeem half the number of miles to take a one-way flight.
It also means that members can opt to redeem round-trip flights travelling in different cabins on each leg. An additional enhancement to the AAdvantage scheme now allows up to four one-way awards at one time, enabling multi-city award bookings.
