Hilton to open Lagos airport hotel

Hilton Worldwide has announced that it will open a second hotel at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport.

Set to open in 2023, the hotel will join the 130-room Legend Hotel Lagos Airport, which, expected to open mid 2017, will be the Nigerian capital’s first “airport hotel”.

The Hilton Lagos Airport will have 350 rooms, including 72 suites, an executive floor, restaurants, a rooftop bar and nightclub, an infinity pool, spa and fitness centre. More than 2,600 sqm of event space will be available, featuring a 1,350sqm ballroom and 500 sqm junior ballroom.

Commenting on the new property, Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice president of development EMEA for Hilton Worldwide, said:

“With a population of more than 16 million, Lagos is the seventh-fastest growing city in the world and the second largest in Africa, with much of the nation’s wealth and economic activity concentrated here.

“Strong growth is forecasted in both domestic and international travellers using Murtala Muhammed International Airport, so this exemplary new hotel will be well placed to meet traveller’s needs, offering an unparalleled level of design, comfort and service.”

Hilton has announced that it plans to double its presence in Africa in the next five years to more than 80 hotels.
