Just days after Swire Hotels announced the name of its new “The House Collective” property that will open in Shanghai’s upcoming HKRI Taikoo Hui development, Hong Kong-based HKRI International Limited has announced that its second Sukhothai Hotels and Resorts-brand property will also be located in the upcoming mixed-use complex.

Set to open in late 2017 – similar to The Middle House, which HKRI is jointly developing with Swire Properties along with the HKRI Taikoo Hui development itself – The Sukhothai Shanghai will be positioned as a “contemporary luxury boutique hotel” within the complex.

This will be likely to take the form of boutique in concept rather than size, however, as the hotel is set to offer a total of 168 rooms and 33 suites. This is notably more than The Middle House’s 111 guestrooms – though 102 serviced apartments will also be offered under The Middle House Residences – and more than the double-digit number of rooms typically associated with boutique properties. Accommodations at The Sukhothai Shanghai will range from 44sqm to 172sqm.

Along with being connected to the shops and two office towers at the development, the new Sukhothai is annexed with a restored heritage building, “Cha House”. Facilities within the property will also include five F&B venues – including an iteration of La Scala in its Bangkok property – as well as six events rooms and a ballroom. A 25-metre indoor pool, fitness centre, and spa round out the leisure facilities.

“Following years of continued success of The Sukhothai Bangkok, we are thrilled and excited to establish the Sukhothai brand in China,” said the new Shanghai hotel’s general manager, Marcel N A Holman.

“We are proud to celebrate the birth of this contemporary design hotel in the dynamic metropolis where we preserve The Sukhothai Bangkok heritage and continue our widely acclaimed service philosophy, tradition, quality and standard. Our guests’ journey will include the familiar impeccable service touch-points throughout The Sukhothai Shanghai”.

Offering a gross floor area of approximately 322,000sqm, HKRI Taikoo Hui is being developed with a total investment of RMB17 billion (US$2.5 billion).
