Tasmania’s capital city Hobart is set to be the location of Australia’s first Hyatt Centric-brand hotel, due to open in early 2019. The Tasmanian city has been one of the country’s strongest performing hotel markets in recent years, according to Hyatt Hotels and Resorts, with overseas arrivals from China, the US and UK being particularly strong.

Hyatt Centric Hobart will be situated near the Hobart Waterfront in the city’s commercial and tourism centre, and will include 221 guestrooms, along with a restaurant, bar and meeting facilities.

“The Hyatt Centric brand offers an upscale, cosmopolitan experience that was created for millennial-minded travellers,” said David Uddel, group president – Asia Pacific, Hyatt Hotels Corporation. “With hotels placed in the centre of the world’s most unique destinations, this brand provides our guests with a launch pad to explore the best the city has to offer – which in the case of Hobart includes the breathtaking surrounding countryside.”

Construction of Hyatt Centric Hobart is due to begin in the middle of this year, and follows the recent return of the Hyatt Regency brand to Sydney in December 2016.
