10 Jan 2014 by Clement Huang
Meliá Hotels International has signed two new properties in the growing political and business hub of Zhengzhou, China. INNSIDE by Meliá is expected to open in June 2015, while Meliá Zhengzhou will commence operations in January 2016. Zhengzhou has experienced a strong influx of travellers in recent years, with the city’s airport receiving over 10 million visitors in 2012. GDP for the year also grew by 12 per cent. The hotels will be housed within a complex comprising three buildings, one for the INNSIDE property and the other two devoted to Meliá Zhengzhou, which is will cater to both regular and longer-term stays. Both hotels will bring a total of 933 guestrooms, along with MICE facilities including a grand ballroom that is able to accommodate 900 people, as well as several multi-functional meeting rooms. The two new properties reflect the group’s expansion focus in China, which will see a number of other hotels opening soon within the country, including Gran Meliá Xian and Meliá Jinan in 2014, along with the Meliá Tianjin and Meliá Chongqing (see here) in 2015 and 2016 respectively. “The addition of these two brands brings a range of facilities and service cultures unparalleled in Zhengzhou. We are proud and excited to bring our brands to this quickly developing city, as a part of our expansion strategy in the main Chinese destinations,” said Bernardo Cabot, vice president of Meliá Hotels International, Asia Pacific.
